Our Intervention
Over the past three years, Prameya Foundation has successfully mobilized 100 women from the local community in creating a Mangrove Action Committee. This committee was tasked with establishing a mangrove nursery and 2,00,000 mangrove saplings were planted along this mud embankment, restoring a barren area of more than 5 acres and securing 2 km of the embankment. Additionally, 40 acres of mangrove forest were conserved by creating community awareness and implementing village-level policies which prohibit the grazing of Bovidae animals in the conservation zone. To date, we have successfully conserved and restored 45 acres of mangrove forest which will enhance carbon sinks and act as a natural barrier to cyclones and sea level rise in this region.
